Roanoke City set out to develop a new downtown station and administration facility that would serve the modern day needs of the Fire/EMS department.

Roanoke Fire-EMS Station and Headquarters

While many seek the most suitable site for new development, the selected site for this project required extensive work to be viable. This was an integral part of the planning strategy for the City to ensure that more desirable sites would be preserved for future development by the private sector. The station includes three drive-through apparatus bays, separate bays for EMS and command vehicles, living spaces, a command and control center, fitness rooms, and training areas. Since the completion of Fire Station 1, the design team has developed several substations for the City.
