As part of a larger plan to improve public transportation and promote ongoing renewal in downtown Roanoke, VA, the Greater Roanoke Transit Company (GRTC) engaged Spectrum Design to help relocate their 40-year old main transit station to a new open-air structure just a few blocks away.  Spectrum brought transportation planner Michael Baker International to the team to help evaluate the transportation and facility needs. The resulting plans reflect a new station that will not only meet GRTC’s needs today but will perform at a high level with flexibility to accommodate future developments in bus transportation.  Care was taken in regards to massing, scale, and material selections, to develop a solution that would integrate seamlessly into the surrounding context.
