Rethink a school building that was originally constructed in 1958 from the inside out to support rigorous academic demands while also providing a safe environment for personal development.
Maury River Middle School
Careful planning lead to an addition and renovation strategy that combined two Middle Schools into one school that embraces the arts, STEM, state-of-the-art classroom settings, teacher support, and athletics. This consolidation allowed for essential additional educational programs absent from the two existing schools. The data collected from numerous meetings was distilled and processed into a matrix of spaces and teaching opportunities, which formed the building blocks for a reconfiguration. Through this process, it became clear that there were three leading issues to resolve: existing building deficiencies, security and accessibility, and inadequate learning space. Cross-disciplinary curriculum is encouraged in a new technology wing, and a central focus on STEM is taken to the next level through intensive engineering programs that parallel the regional economy.
